Power of Muzik: #StopSpeakSupport

Power of Muzik: #StopSpeakSupport

Our Key Stage 3 students and staff welcomed The Power of Muzik group with singers Denis Coleman and James CC into school for an open discussion about mental health and wellbeing, delivered powerfully via the medium of song last week.

Performing their own topical and inspiring pop songs (to raucous applause) in between motivational talks countering alienation, bullying, eating disorders and the negative power of social media, the teenage singers encouraged students to remember their mantra of #StopSpeakSupport: stop the bullying, speak up via helplines and support others by looking out for them and lending an ear.

The Power of Muzik was founded by celebrity vocal coach Cece Sammy, mentor to rising stars of The X Factor and The Voice and perform in schools to encourage open conversation around bullying.

Commenting, Mr Philip Clackson, Assistant Head – Pastoral at Sexey’s School said, “It was wonderful to see the students so engaged around such important issues to promote mental wellbeing. Our thanks go to the Power of Muzik team for delivering their act so enthusiastically and kickstarting our programme of events around mental health and bullying, which will continue after Christmas with a visit from Kooth representatives, the online confidential mental health resource for students.”
